had to go back and listen to the original because I couldnt recall what it sounded like for the same reason as Pixel-DJ haha. Sounds good, only thing i would change is perhaps you could modulate the synths that come in at 0:50, theyre a little static and with a little modulation they could be a little more interesting. drums sit a little far away, perhaps a little side chain compression on the synths could bring the drums out a little better. good job nonetheless, i quite liked it :)

thanks for the feedback

liking how this is coming along. definitely fixed the mids from the last wip you posted, and i really like what youve added. the breakdown was pretty epic, really liked the space to it. love all of the different elements going on in this, cant wait to hear the finished product.

D-Chain responds:

Im glad you like the improvement(s)!

I think what this piece is lacking is dynamics, which is restricting the piece from conveying the full emotion that is there in the piece. The piano is static, and lacks dynamic feel as each note is the same velocity. it takes away from the emotion that you are going for. the strings also need expression, strings should swell and have feeling to them, they shouldnt play a static velocity. the oboe is decent, but you should balance the strings and piano with the oboe better. if youre having a solo instrument playing, you should bring down the other sections of the orchestra so that instrument can stand out better. I think with some care, this piece can reach its full potential, its just lacking some dynamics to give it more emotion and feel :)

Thanks for that specific review, I can totally work with that! I'll see if I can improve on it.
Thank you again

nice tight bass you got going on here! really liked the sound choice. perhaps a little static, but i think it being static works for this song because it keeps it relaxed, makes it good background music. loved the solo string line, very pretty. really liked it, good job :)

Svenzo responds:

Thanx,glad you like it

I love the piano, very beautiful, and the little pad in the background gives it some nice space and texture. However, i was not a fan of the voices, i feel they took away from the piece a little for me, they kind of got too much in front of the piano, and i found them distracting. perhaps if they were just a little further away in the mix they would work. great work nonetheless, loved the piano :) definitely following you.

Thank for your advice and listening!

hehe, really liked this one. I work on orchestration myself, but i make more dark sounding stuff and action stuff than i do happy stuff. I really like the work here from a musical point of view, the bassline to me brings about a mood of curiosity and mystery, and then the little chord progression that comes in from 0:20-0:40 brings in a mood of conflict and problems, while the major mood of the whole piece kind of keeps a little bit of a cheery side to it. really enjoyed it :) may i ask since this is labeled as video game music, if this is for a video game, where might this be taking place in the video game?

WarmanSteve responds:

Thanks! This is actually from a fantasy themed breakout game I'm working on with a small group. I went a bit overboard, but I really like writing dramatic fantasy stuff :P

kind of has a 90's dance vibe to it, i like it :) if you i were to change anything, i would change some things in the intro, particularly the hihats at 1:04 and the kick fill at around 1:20. i dont think the hihats added much to the song, and found it to be a bit random, but thats just me. i also think you could have done something different for the fill at 1:20, I just dont think thats the best fill you could have done. other than those two things though, i enjoyed the song, and i also reallly liked the acid bassline :)

JMSy responds:

hi i have a totally new version you may like ill upload just now thanks much for your thoughts and fedback and listening..much appreciated man..yeh im stuck in the 90s chit lol

catchy! I definitely like what you've got going here. I might suggest adding something in there to fill out the whole frequency spectrum, I dont have perfect ears but i think its missing something in the mid frequencies. great idea though, flesh this out into a full song I definitely think its got potential :)

D-Chain responds:

Thanks man, yup the mids need a little something. already boosted the freq a bit as i 'speak' and added just a little something extra to make it more 80s/retro :)
i will definitely make this into a full song. ever since a little kid i was in love with those catchy 80s analog synths and beats. so, im not just gonna let this pass by.
Thanks again! :)

really like the string work, they sound nice and convincing to my ears. my only suggestion is they sit a little awkwardly in the mix for me, and could do with a tad less reverb as well as some eqing. however, i really liked the progression, and I also liked some of the glitchy elements you added in there, really gave it a nice chopped sample kind of feel. all in all it was really quality stuff, good job!
